This course helps participants understand how work is performed in complex environments.
Serious incidents are often complex and involve several interacting factors. When factors are not fully explored, investigations can become over-simplified leading to ineffective corrective actions and missed learning opportunities.
In this course, participants will learn to:
- Recognize the underlying complexity behind serious incidents
- Understand how successful work is achieved under real-world conditions
- Move beyond simple cause-and-effect explanations
- Support more effective follow-up actions and performance improvements
This course was developed as part of a creative sentencing project in partnership with the Alberta Government and an oil and gas well-servicing company.
Topics Covered
- Incident Review – 3D video re-creation of the events that led to the death of an oil and gas worker
