Preventing Serious Incidents & Fatalities

Alberta's energy sector has reduced workplace injuries by more than 70% over 15 years. That reflects genuine commitment across the industry — better systems, better training, stronger safety culture.

And yet, since 2009, more than 160 workers in Alberta's energy sector have died on the job. Thousands more have been seriously hurt.

The hazards behind these incidents are well understood. The patterns are consistent. What the industry needs now is a faster, more connected way to share what it knows — so every organization benefits from what any one of them learns.

The Same Hazards.
Year After Year.

492 potential serious incidents over five years reveal clear, repeating patterns. The same high-risk hazards appear again and again — and they're not unique to Canada. IOGP and U.S. OSHA report identical trends worldwide.

  • 01Contact or struck with object, tool, or equipment
  • 02Struck by falling object
  • 03Caught on or between object, tool, or equipment
  • 04Inhalation of hazardous substance
  • 05Collision between vehicles
