New Identification Requirements for Transportation Carriers and Operators

Manitoba’s specific requirements for operator identification on regulated vehicles are specified in Part 3 of the Regulated Vehicles (Safety Fitness, Operator Identification and Records and Vehicle Exemptions) Regulation.

• A distinctive mark or graphic that readily identifies the registered operator placed in a conspicuous place on each lateral side of the vehicle.
• The NSC number of the registered operator placed in a conspicuous place on each lateral side of the vehicle.
• Each letter or figure must be a minimum of 5 cm tall * and 5 cm wide and must contrast with the background it is placed on. 
  *Amendment - To support national industry harmonization, Manitoba will also accept the legal character sizes specified for commercial vehicle markings in all other Canadian jurisdictions, specifically:
  • Each letter or figure must be a minimum of 4 cm tall.
  • Character width and spacing must be chosen to ensure markings are clear and legible.
• The regulated vehicle identification requirements apply to power units (i.e. trucks or truck tractors) only.

• Ensure the registered operator’s identification markings are prominently displayed when more than one company’s name/logo is on a vehicle.
• The registered operator’s NSC number is clearly identified as the NSC number. This can be achieved by preceding the NSC number marking with one of the options noted below:
  • NSC #: XXXXXXXXX
  • NSC: XXXXXXXXX
  • NSC No.: XXXXXXXXX
