A Safety Hazard

In 2023, Energy Safety Canada (ESC) confiscated 188 counterfeit certificates, with an additional 178 found so far in 2024. These counterfeit certificates pose a significant safety risk and undermine the integrity of ESC’s training standards.

ESC’s training certificates confirm that a worker is trained and ready to work safely. To ensure that only legitimately trained individuals access work sites, use the online Certificate Validation tool to validate a certificate.

Fraudulent training is hazardous and disregards the high industry safety standards set by ESC, putting the workers who obtained counterfeit certificates, and everyone around them, at risk.

What To Look For

  • Do not accept photos or scanned copies of ESC certificates. Accept original ESC certificates that are issued in person af ter successful course completion.
  • Detailed certificate information is available on ESC’s website.
  • Validate certificates using ESC’s online Certificate Validation tool or by scanning the QR code on the certificate.
